Name
Limestone

Description
Whitish-gray solid stone.  Comes from natural sources and is crushed to different sizes.  Because it is crushed, it is not round stones, it has corners and edges.  It is the type of stone typically used for driveways and parking lots.  Slag and recycled concrete can be used for all the same applications as limestone.  Many people mistakenly refer to limestone as slag, so if a customer says they want slag, be sure to ask if they really mean limestone.  Sold by the ton, approximately 1.5 tons per cubic yard.

Uses
#57 Base for concrete or asphalt
#411 Base for retaining walls or paving stones
#57 Driveways or parking lots
#411 Filling holes in paved area
#57 Under decks (not visible)

Remember that the smaller the stone, the smoother the finish will be.  Also, the softer the area you are working in is, the larger the stone you should start with and add additional layers of smaller and smaller stones until your finished surface is the desired product.

Name
Slag

Description
This is a by-product in the production of steel.  It is a dark gray, porous stone.  It is about the same texture as pumice or lava rock.  It serves the same functions as limestone and recycled concrete but Three-Z does not recommend it because it is not as durable as limestone.  Sold by the ton, approximately 1.2 tons per cubic yard.

Uses
  • Decoration around flowerbeds, pools, or walkways.

  • This is purely a decorative stone, use it wherever the light color is desired.

Name
Washed River Gravel

Description
This is a naturally occurring stone.  The stones vary in color from gray to brown to tan and are rounded and smooth.  It is not a crushed stone so it does not have any edges or corners.  Sold by the ton, approximately 1.4 tons per cubic yard.

Sizes Available
# 8 (also called pea gravel), # 57, # 34, # 1 (very dirty in this size)

Uses
#57 Covering drain tiles
any size Decorative ground cover
#34 or #57 Under decks (visible)
#57 or #8 In dog kennels
#57 Backlifting after waterproofing
#57 Backfilling retaining walls (with drain tiles installed)

Name
Boulders

Description
Natural stones that range in size from 6” to 24”.  They are mainly sandstone and granite and rounded in shape. The color, size, and shape vary so we recommend customers look at them first.  They are sold by the ton, but the price varies depending on how they are picked out and loaded.  There is typically some sand mixed in with the boulders.

Uses
  • Low retaining walls.

  • Borders of flowerbeds or gardens.

  • Accent pieces in flowerbeds.

Name
Silica Gravel

Description
Manila or ivory colored stones.  They are only available in size # 67 (½ to ¾ inch diameter) and are smooth and round.  They are not pure, bright white.  There is approximately 1.3 tons per cubic yard.  Material is sold by the ton and is very clean.

Uses
  • Decoration around flowerbeds, pools, or walkways.

  • This is purely a decorative stone, use it wherever the light color is desired.

Name
Sandstone Flatrock

Description

  • Small - 1” to 3” thick and approximately 12” by 12” across

  • Medium - 3” to 5” thick and approximately 18” to 24” across

  • Large - 4” to 6” thick and approximately 20” to 36” across
