Composition
100% pure hardwood bark.  Mostly oak, cherry, poplar, and maple.
Description
The bark has been shredded at least two times.  It is dark brown and stringy.  The color does vary slightly depending on how long it has been aged.  It typically runs the color of coffee grounds or chocolate.  Available in double or triple shredded.  The triple shredded is finer and is mainly for use in mulch blowers.  This is the most common mulch.  Sold by the yard.
Uses
  • Decoration around trees, shrubs, and beds.

  • Best choice for: Moisture retention

  • Adding nutrients to soil

  • All new beds or newly mulched areas should be mulched with shredded bark the first time.

Composition

Colored Mulches
Composition
100% recycled hardwood that has been color enhanced with a FDA approved dye.  Wood is primarily ground pallets.
Description

Coarser than the natural mulches.  The pieces are about the size of broken pencils, with very little fine material in it.  FDA approved colorants will not harm plants or soils.  Dye will allow the mulch to hold it’s color longer than natural mulches but it will not lend as much nutrient to the soil.  Comes in black, brown, red, or gold.  Sold by the yard.  It can be re-colored with Mulch Magic if it fades.
Black- pure black, like charcoal; Brown- chocolate brown
Red- brick red; Gold- orange-brown, looks like cypress mulch

Decorative covering in shrub and flowerbeds.

Composition
100% pure cypress wood and cypress bark.
Description
Orange-brown, or golden mulch that is very fine in texture.  It’s texture is similar to triple shredded hardwood bark, but it is not at all stringy.  It is the most expensive off all mulches because it comes from Florida or Georgia.  Sold by the yard.
Uses
  • Around trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds to keep weeds down.

  • The only natural alternative to shredded bark.

  • Used where a customer wants a light, natural mulch

Wood Fiber
Composition
100% shredded, aged wood
Description
Natural colored aged wood.  It is ground to a fairly coarse texture, similar to that of the colored mulches but because it is aged it is a softer material.  It does not have very fine material in it so it is much cleaner than the bark mulches. 
Uses
  • Ground cover beneath swing sets or play areas.

  • Decorative covering around trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds.

  • Covering walkways and paths.

Description
Square chips of wood approximately 1” by 1” by ¼” thick.  They do not come from tree companies; they come from lumber mills.  This means there is no leaf material or sticks in them.  The color is natural wood, tan.
